I make travel videos across Bangladesh for my channel Sakil The Traveler. These are the tips I share with every creator who visits.
Expect attention — and kindness
A camera in Bangladesh draws a crowd within minutes. People are curious and friendly; smile, explain what you're doing and you will be invited for tea more often than you can accept.
Ask before filming people
Most people are happy to be filmed if asked. Be more careful with women, children and inside religious places. A local who speaks Bangla makes these moments natural instead of awkward.
Dress and respect
Modest clothing — covered shoulders and knees — makes life easier everywhere, especially outside Dhaka and at mosques and shrines.
Keep your kit light
Traffic, boats and crowds favour small setups: a gimbal or action camera, a wireless mic, spare batteries and a power bank. Dust and humidity are hard on gear — bring cleaning kits and silica packs.
Drones
Don't simply fly a drone you brought in your bag. Drone use is regulated and many areas are restricted. Working with an authorised local operator is the safe option.
Story ideas that perform
- A full day eating Old Dhaka street food.
- The overnight launch to Barishal.
- Living a day with tea pickers or fishermen.
- Rickshaw art and the people who paint it.
- The world's longest beach — and the fishing boats at dawn.
